Porto Recannati
Along the Adriatic coast, just a little bit south of the dramatic Conero promontory, lies Porto Recanati – a vibrant and inviting seaside town that perfectly encapsulates the relaxed charm of Le Marche’s shoreline. Unlike some of its more rugged neighbours, Porto Recanati boasts long, wide beaches, a lively pedestrian promenade, and a characterful fishing village atmosphere, making it a beloved destination for both families with children and single sun-worshippers.
Eight kilometers of beach
The coastline of Porto Recanati is its undisputed star. With approximately eight kilometers of beach, ranging from fine pebbles to soft sand, there’s a spot for every preference. The crystal-clear waters, awarded for cleanliness and environmental sustainability, are ideal for swimming and water sports. The Lungomare (promenade) is a vibrant artery of the town, completely pedestrianized and perfect for leisurely strolls and cycling. Here you simply enjoy a gelato while watching the world go by.
Explore and experience
Beyond the beach, the heart of Porto Recanati beats in its historic center around the Castello Svevo. This medieval fortress, with its origins in defense against pirate raids, stands proudly in the main square. Its internal courtyard is a focal point of town life, when you climb the castle tower you’ll have a panoramic view on the coastline and the distant Monte Conero. Inside the castle, you can also find the Attilio Moroni Picture Gallery, showcasing local art and history.
Local flavors
Porto Recanati’s roots as a fishing village are still very much alive, today. The local cuisine naturally reflects its heritage, with fresh seafood being a cornerstone. A must-try specialty is the Brodetto di Porto Recanati, a unique fish stew that distinguishes itself by being tomato-free and often infused with wild Conero saffron, giving it a distinctive golden hue.
