Wild neighbours caught on camera!

Ever wonder who roams the land when the sun goes down and the tools are put away?

As it turns out, we are far from alone here. Since we started this journey, one of our biggest priorities has been finding the balance between developing our land and respecting its natural inhabitants.. wild animals.

To get a true “behind-the-scenes” look at our wild neighbors, we’ve installed several wildlife cameras across the property. These motion-activated lenses have captured a world that we rarely see live. Here is who we’re sharing the land with:

  • Bambi: we frequently see deer grazing in the quiet hours of the dawn.
  • Red foxes are regulars, often seen patrolling the perimeter with curious eyes.
  • Porcupines and wild boar are the heavy hitters of the night, often leaving behind “souvenirs” of their midnight digging.

It hasn’t just been about the large mammals. We’ve encountered a massive variety of creatures that were previously unknown to us.

We’ve seen large black snakes, scorpions, and many insects we couldn’t even name at first. On the gentler side, the land is alive with salamanders, bees (including those from our own hives!), and a stunning array of butterflies.

While we haven’t caught them on the ground cameras yet, we are constantly treated to the sight of majestic birds of prey circling high above. They are a constant presence, though they seem to prefer the view from the clouds over a close-up on the ground!

We frequently see young deer passing by. It amazes us how curious they are!

Sam’s favorite animal is a fox. We have spotted many of them on our cameras!

We don’t think we have ever seen a porcupine live, but during the night they seem to be very busy!

Wild boars are everywhere! They look.. tasty! 🙂
